Device Description

ASTdim GPS is an intelligent luminaire power reduction controller with an integrated GPS receiver and astronomical timer functionality. Designed for installation directly into luminaires equipped with a ZHAGA socket, it provides precise power management and fully automatic lighting control.

The controller enables programmable power reduction according to user-defined time schedules, significantly reducing energy consumption while maintaining the required lighting performance. In addition, ASTdim GPS can operate as a standalone astronomical timer, automatically switching the luminaire on at sunset and off at sunrise.

Equipped with a high-precision real-time clock and an integrated GPS receiver, the controller continuously synchronizes its internal time and executes programmed schedules independently of the master controller installed in the lighting cabinet.

 


Intelligent Power Reduction

ASTdim GPS supports up to five independently programmable power reduction periods, allowing lighting levels to be optimized according to traffic conditions, operating schedules, or customer requirements.

Each programmable period includes:

  • Start time
  • End time
  • Power reduction level

This intelligent approach significantly reduces electricity consumption while maintaining safety and lighting quality.

Because the controller operates independently, programmed power reduction schedules remain active even when the lighting line controller introduces scheduled night interruptions.


Standalone Astronomical Timer

ASTdim GPS can also operate as a fully autonomous astronomical timer.

Using its integrated GPS receiver, the controller automatically calculates local sunrise and sunset times, allowing each luminaire to switch on and off independently without requiring external astronomical controllers.

This functionality is particularly suitable for installations where luminaires remain permanently powered and switching is performed locally within each lighting fixture.


Flexible Lighting Control

The controller supports two industry-standard lighting control interfaces:

  • DALI
  • 1–10 V

In addition, ASTdim GPS features a trigger input for connection to external devices such as motion sensors.

When motion is detected, the controller can immediately restore the luminaire to 100% output, before automatically returning to the programmed dimming level.

The controller can be configured using a predefined power cycling sequence. Power reduction schedules may also be programmed locally using ASTmidi controllers and the mobile application or remotely via ASTgsm controllers using the web platform.
